The Chalet

A traditional Bernese farmhouse in Oey-Diemtigen, a quiet village in the Bernese Highlands. Wooden beams, old windows, a tiled stove in the corner. Our host Magdalena — musician, dairy farmer, natural communicator — made it feel like staying with someone who genuinely wanted you there.

The Area

The Bernese Highlands sit at the quieter end of the Swiss Alps — wide valleys, small villages, and mountain views that don't feel like they're performing for anyone. Oey-Diemtigen is the kind of place where you hear cowbells before you see the mountains. Easy hiking straight from the chalet, and close enough to Thun and Spiez for a day out.

How the days unfolded

THURSDAY

Arrival.

Arrival at the chalet. First dinner together around the wooden table.

FRIDAY

Working from the chalet.

Laptops open, calls taken, deadlines met. Lunch was a picnic on the hillside — blanket on the grass, snow-capped peaks in the background.

SATURDAY

Day trip to Thun and Spiez.

Lakeside towns with castles and old cobblestone streets.

SUNDAY

Into the hills.

Morning hike through the meadows with Magdalena and her dogs. Departure after lunch.
